Nexplanon is one of the most effective birth control options available. Once it’s in your arm, Nexplanon works to prevent pregnancy with a continuous release of progestin, one of the hormones found in birth control pills. This keeps the egg from being released from the ovaries and prevents sperm from reaching the egg.  Nexplanon can be removed at any time. It must be removed by the end of the third year and may be replaced by a new Nexplanon at the time of removal, if continued contraceptive protection is desired.
